Mailing case study

The brief

Axis IQ won the brief to do the biggest mail communications job in town. As the waste contract supplier of the Coffs Coast, Handybin Waste Services prepares and distributes a waste communications mailout to every household in the Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca Council areas outlining rubbish and recycling collection days as well as bulky goods collection information.

This is a very complicated mailing, handling 88 databases of contact details of more than 60,000 households. With the postage bill alone coming to nearly $50,000 it is no surprise that Handybin wanted to entrust the job to a sure-footed company.

“It was such an involved mailing, they were very nervous about it. In past years they actually had gone to the mail site to monitor the process. It?s a one-chance communication and if you get it wrong the cost implications are massive.”

Our solution

Axis IQ printed all collateral for the mailing including fridge calendars, surveys, return envelopes as well as special plastic bags collated in packs and coordinated the complex, multi-database mailing to households throughout Coffs Harbour, Nambucca and Bellingen councils, using the variable data process to send only relevant information specific to each recipient.

The company also used the mailing as a campaign to encourage people to download the mobile app. As Australia Post rates continue to rise, we are especially keen to help our clients ensure that they maximise the benefits of each mailing they do.

Outcome

The job – which lasted more than four months from concept to completion – went perfectly, without a hitch. With our mailhouse we managed to create a lighter pack for the more bulky Bellingen portion of the mailing, which meant we were able to save our client nearly $10,000 in postage compared with what they expected at the commencement of the project!
