Our Tips for Beautiful & Tempting Food Photography

Food imagery plays a big part in what drives people to a venue. Whilst nothing beats a library of professional shots, sometimes you need to take a quick snap using your phone. Follow our tips to take a snazzy shot!

  1. Shoot your images in natural light.
Try to stay away from shooting images in low or really bright lighting. Natural light is the best light you can shoot in for food, so make sure you start there. This will determine the quality of your photo straight away.

  2. Don’t use zoom
Refrain from using zoom, as it distorts the image and results in a low res/low quality image, which won’t reflect your business/brand in the best way possible.

  3. Batch your content
Take LOADS of photos. You need to have options and other angles to show on your social platforms. Batching your content within one shoot will save you time in the long run when creating images to use as evergreen social content!

  4. Try shooting overhead
Overhead is one of the best ways to shoot images, as you get a whole view of the food and it acts as the perspective as if the viewer was looking over THEIR meal. AND almost any type of food looks good from this angle, which is what we want!

  5. Use the grid feature on your phone
The grid is important to use, as it relates to the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds can be done by placing key elements of your scene within the line’s intersection on the grid. It creates a balanced image and gives an aesthetic result!

Finally, don’t forget to keep a steady hand when taking your images. Have fun with it and get creative. Now is your chance to get out there and put these tips to the test.
